What’s Blocking Your Richness?

In the previous exploration, we looked at what richness actually means: how much of life we are available for, what we can receive, what we can hold, what we can feel and how much life force we have available to us. But that raises another question: If richness is already available, what gets in the way of experiencing it? Sometimes the answer is surprisingly simple. We do.

Not because we consciously choose to limit ourselves, but because patterns, beliefs, habits and unconscious responses can quietly shape what we allow ourselves to experience. Sometimes richness isn't missing. Something is standing between us and our access to it.

Here are five places I would start looking.

1. You don't see your triggers as information

A trigger can be uncomfortable, but it can also be useful information. Something happens, somebody says something, and suddenly a strong reaction appears. Our first instinct is often to make the situation stop. We want the person to change, the feeling to disappear or the circumstances to be different.

But what if the reaction is showing you something about yourself? A wound. A belief. A pattern. A place where you are giving your power away.

This doesn't mean what happened was okay, or that the other person is right. It means your reaction contains information about you. Instead of only asking, “How do I make this stop?”, try asking: “What is this showing me?” That question can open an entirely different door.

2. You don't give yourself enough time and space

Richness requires attention. If you are constantly busy doing the same things, investing your time in the same places and repeating the same patterns, it becomes difficult to create something different.

Change requires investment. Sometimes that means reflection. Sometimes it means learning, having a difficult conversation, working with someone or simply creating enough space to hear yourself again.

“I don't have time” can also become a convenient belief. You are already investing your time somewhere. The question is: Where are you investing it, and is that investment giving you access to more of your life?

3. You believe something outside of you is taking your energy

They drain me. That situation drains me. That person takes all my energy.

Sometimes people and circumstances are genuinely difficult. But there is another question worth asking: What is my part in this?

Are you over-giving? Saying yes when you mean no? Staying somewhere you no longer want to be? Avoiding a conversation? Continuing to invest in something that is consistently depleting you?

When the entire story becomes about what something outside of you is doing to your energy, you can lose sight of your own agency. Sometimes richness is on the other side of a choice you haven't allowed yourself to see yet.

4. You don't see the possibilities available to you

Sometimes you don't have a lack of choice. You have a lack of awareness of choice.

When we have lived with one way of thinking, responding or behaving for long enough, it can start to feel like the only possible way. But what else could be possible? What question haven't you asked? What conversation haven't you had? What perspective haven't you considered?

This is where curiosity becomes powerful. You don't need to know the answer. You simply need to become willing to look.

Because you can't choose what you can't see. Sometimes the first step towards more richness is simply realising that there are more possibilities than you thought.

5. You become your emotions instead of observing them

Feeling deeply is part of richness. Emotions are information and can give us valuable insight into what is happening within us. The difficulty comes when we become completely merged with an emotion and treat the feeling as the whole truth.

I feel rejected, therefore I am being rejected.

I feel unsafe, therefore this person is unsafe.

I feel afraid, therefore something is wrong.

The observer creates another possibility: “Okay. I'm feeling this. What else is happening here?”

You don't have to suppress the emotion or disconnect from it. You create enough space between yourself and the experience to become curious again. And when you can observe something, you create more choice around how you meet it.

So, what's blocking your richness?

It may be less about what you need to add to your life and more about what you need to become aware of: the trigger you haven't listened to, the time you haven't made, the energy you keep giving away, the possibility you haven't considered or the emotion you have become identified with.

And there are many more. Because richness is not only about what is available to us. It is also about our access to what is already here.

That is one of the questions I continue exploring through I AM RICH. If you want to go deeper, you can find the podcast on Spotify and other major podcast platforms.
